The Metaverse’s Infinite Economy

by admin

Imagine being able to holoport to Disneyland in Anaheim and then explore the Louvre museum in Paris for 15 minutes between meetings.

What previously took hours or days of travel time, now takes a click of the mouse (or VR controller). We’re not talking about viewing their existing 2D websites. We’re talking about holoporting to immersive 3D digital twin experiences of real world destinations and interacting with people both virtually and physically present at those same locations.

Imagine if your business’ revenue was no longer constrained to local visitors. The metaverse will soon allow all of us to travel to any destination in seconds and experience the destination as-if we were physically there.

We’ll still need to purchase entry tickets but rather than being physical receipts or wristbands, tickets will be issued as limited use NFTs displayed as badges on our virtual avatars. Gift shops at these destinations will offer virtual goods and services. Instead of a purchasing a Matterhorn t-shirt or hat, your avatar will be able to wear them as digital clothing also issued as NFTs. All of your NFT purchases can be stored in your backpack and taken with you (along with your avatar) from verse to verse.

While the video below was created a decade ago to demonstrate XBox Kinect opportunities, you can imagine how much easier this will be to roll out to the masses using VR.

Platforms like XRPA.NET are already exploring the capabilities of realtime holoportation in VR to any lat/long geo coordinate, address, or landmark in the world in seconds. VR users appear in the real world as hologram avatars and can interact and communicate with people physically present via AR and visa versa — physically present people appear in the VR user’s digital twin as an avatar in the virtual world.

Here’s a short demo video of an XR Disco that I prototyped to demonstrate life-size avatar holograms interacting together in my game room via PC/Mac, Oculus Quest (VR) and Magic Leap (AR) glasses.

XRPA.NET’s XR Cloud allows both VR and AR users to see and interact with the same spatial anchors pinned to real world lat/long geo coordinates.

By using higher fidelity sets of tiles, we can achieve even more realistic holoportation experiences! Stay tuned…

Now combine XRPA.NET technologies with Metaverses.io and you can start exploring virtual worlds with friends as video based avatars instead of holograms. Video avatars are currently better for more intimate conversations with friends and family as well as for work environments. It’s still difficult to express nonverbal communications through avatars for the time being.

Since XRPA.NET was designed around geo locations and open street maps, its use cases are predominantly based outdoors. To accommodate indoor functionality, we have developed a complimentary metaverse-as-a-service technology platform called Metaverses.io. Since both technologies are based on WebXR and run across devices in Web browsers, we are envisioning that a user could start in XRPANET outdoors and walk into a building simply by the browser redirecting the link to the appropriate Metaverses.io space and visa versa.
